JR. GIRLS’ WORLD CUP

Games set to resume at 8 a.m. on Sunday are: the Rock N Fire (Manassas, Virginia) vs. the Lilburn (Georgia) T-Birds, Team FLA (Palm Harbor, Florida) vs. the (San Luis Obispo) California Cruisers, and the Philippines vs. Chinese Taipei. The winner of those first two games will face each other at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The winner of that game will go on to face the winner of the Philippines vs. Chinese Taipei game for the world cup at 2 p.m. In between will be a game at 12 Noon between the loser of the Philippines vs. Chinese Taipei game and the loser of the 10:00 game.

A total of 19 games did get played today before the bad weather came. The Rock N Fire advanced to where they are now with wins over Shogun (Niceville, Florida), 1-0, and the Tampa Mustangs Red, 4-1.

Lilburn also beat two Florida teams to get to their current position. They eliminated the Jacksonville Storm with a convincing 11-4 win and then ousted the Sarasota Quicksilver with a 3-1 decision.

Team FLA won two games against two South Florida teams today, the SF Contenders-VG (Miami) and the South Florida Connexion (Lantana) both by the score of 9-1.

The Cruisers squeezed past the Davie Power Black (Davie, Florida), 6-5, and then downed Stacey’s Stars (Jacksonville, Florida), 6-1.

In the international bracket, the Philippines needed just a 7-1 win against Mexico to advance to where they are now, while Chinese Taipei first hammered Jamaica, 21-1, and then beat Venezuela 8-3, to get to their current position.

The 16-and-under fast pitch tournament is taking place in Plant City, Florida (USA) in Plant City Stadium and the adjacent Randy L. Larson Softball Fourplex. The event is free and open to the public (only a small parking fee is being charged). Things kicked off with Opening Ceremonies this past Tuesday night with all 30 teams, representing eight different countries. The 1st Jr. Girls’ World Cup took place in November 2001.
