WINNERS ABOUND AS BIG EVENT CONCLUDES
2003-06-23
Almost 60 teams were in action this weekend in a softball event where the average age was probably almost 60 also.
The 2nd ISF Senior World Cup concluded yesterday in Manassas, Virginia (USA). The men’s slow pitch competition consisted of teams from the United States, Canada, and Colombia with no players under the age of 50.
Although it won’t show up in any boxscores, the event’s unsung heroes were
certainly the grounds crews, who worked hard to help overcome the tremendous
amount of rain that fell on the fields, including over an inch just after the
preliminary games began.
ISF Director of Senior Softball R.B. Thomas (pictured above), who served as the
tournament director, said, “All the teams were very excited about the
tournament and the professional way that it was run (particularly the field
maintenance) and most already said they would be back next year.”
The winners of each division and where they are from:
50+ Major – Florida Crush (Delray Beach, Florida)
50+ A – Extra Innings Softball (Glen Allen, Virginia)
50+ B – Valley Electric (Warren, Ohio)
50+ C – Silver Legends (Akron, Ohio)
55+ Major – NY Statesmen (Farmingdale, New York)
55+ A – Spicer Properties (Camp Springs, Maryland)
