2nd SENIOR WORLD CUP GETS UNDERWAY FRIDAY
2003-06-18
This Friday, June 20, the 2nd ISF Senior World Cup gets underway at 9:00 a.m. (Eastern time) in Manassas, Virginia (USA), with teams from the United States, Canada, and Colombia squaring off in three full days of competition. “Many countries have expressed their interest in developing a senior program so they can send teams in the future,” said ISF Director of Senior Softball R.B. Thomas (above), who will serve as the tournament director for this weekend’s event.
The field of 60 teams – all men – exceeds the turnout of 53 at last year’s 1st
ISF Senior World Cup. The teams are in pools that consist of ages 50-and-over,
55-and-over, 60-and-over, 65-and-over, and 70-and-over (including one 75+ team).
“We have some of the top ranked senior teams in the world playing this year and
the World Cup is becoming one of the exciting events in the senior division of
softball,” Thomas noted. “The popularity of the ISF Senior World Cup
demonstrates the desire of the senior (over 50) population to stay active and
ageless. They really enjoy the competition and travel.”
The umpires too add an international flavor, as those from the U.S. will be
joined by some of their colleagues from Canada.
Full details – including last year’s results – are available from the
International Senior Softball Association’s (ISSA) website using the link

finish.
