SENIOR WORLD CUP SHOWED EVENT’S CONTINUED GROWTH
2004-06-21

The 3rd International Softball Federation (ISF) Senior WORLD CUP wrapped up this past Sunday in Manassas, Virginia (USA), which due to the event’s success is rapidly becoming the ‘Senior Softball Capital of the World.’

A whopping 81 teams participated in the three-day event, making for a hectic pace as the number of games played totaled 220. The 81 was more than 20 higher than the number of participating teams one year ago.

As seen in one of the photos below, another achievement at this year’s installment was the addition of a women’s division, after having seen men’s divisions only in the first two years of play.

Teams from Canada, Colombia (see third photo below), Japan (see top photo below), and USA participated, and all competitors were age 50-or-over.

ISF Director of Senior Softball RB Thomas said, “The competition was exciting, and the men and women participating in the event found many new friendships. It was a real pleasure for our staff to host the tournament.”

Thomas indicated that the international teams all said that they would be back next year. The Japanese said they would bring at least two teams and the Colombians said that they would be back with a stronger team.

Thomas, who is already hoping to start looking at dates for a 4th Senior WORLD CUP in 2005, said, “The worldwide development of senior slowpitch softball is on the rise. The ISF Senior WORLD CUP has become one of the favorite senior competitions and we look forward to its growth.”
