RAIN HALTS DAY 1 OF SPWC
2005-10-08
Five teams came out of the first day of play at the International Softball Federation’s (ISF) II Slow Pitch World Cup undefeated Saturday. The schedule originally presented the opportunity for teams to play five games each on Day One, but rain left the teams that haven’t lost yet at just 3-0, with the games that had started – and could result in win number four – set to conclude Sunday morning, beginning at 11 a.m. Immediately following will come the final set of games that had been scheduled to start at 6:00 tonight.
All games are taking place at the ISF’s world headquarters complex in Plant City, Florida, in Plant City Stadium and the Randy L. Larson Softball Fourplex. The action will run most of the day tomorrow, with the final day of play set for Monday.
So far the proverbial ‘teams to beat’ look to be the Clan Softball team from Scotland and a local (Plant City) team, in Pool I. In the other pool, another local (Tampa) team is also at 3-0, along with one of the tournament’s two teams from Great Britain and the Wild Rovers, from Ireland.
Offense has been the name of the game so far, although a couple of one-run games and another decided by just two provided some anxious moments.
The event is free and open to the public.
