2007 ISF CONGRESS IS HERE
2007-10-23

MANILA, PHILIPPINES -- President Don Porter and most of the staff from the world headquarters in Plant City, Florida, are here, readying for the XXIII International Softball Federation (ISF) Congress.

The ISF Executive Council members arrived today and will have a meeting tomorrow. While a few have already gotten in, the overwhelming majority of the Congress delegates from the national softball federations will arrive tomorrow. On Thursday the various ISF commissions will meet. Friday will see a Females in Umpiring workshop followed by one on Back Softball – the ISF’s Olympic reinstatement campaign – and then a workshop on regional training centers. (The ISF’s complex in the U.S. was the first regional training center. Earlier this year another was added in Santo Domingo, and a proposal will be put forth during this week on a location that hopes to become the third destination for national team training and other international softball uses.)

Saturday will be made up of the general assembly, including business such as, but not limited to, the awarding of the 2009 Congress and the 2011 Jr. Women’s World Championship, and the announcement of the latest ISF Hall of Fame electees.

All Congress meetings and proceedings are taking place at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines is the host. Approximately 80 countries are expected to be represented this year, a new ISF record. The ISF Congress is held every other year.
