INDOOR CUP ON TAP
2008-01-16
This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (January 18-20) the 13th Indoor Cup will take place in the Netherlands. Sixteen teams from six different countries will participate at the event in Schiedam. Teams begin arriving tomorrow morning and a coaching clinic will be conducted at night.
The games will be played in de Magriethal and Groenoordhal and there is no admission charge for spectators.
The countries with teams entered are the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, and USA. Friday night’s opening games are a Netherlands team against a U.S. team and the lone German team versus another team from USA. Four other games are set for the first night, with Opening Ceremonies taking place early Saturday morning. The field has been split into four pools of four teams each.
The coaching clinic will be conducted by members of the Netherlands women’s national softball team coaching staff, Liz Kelly, Linda Wells, and Margo Jonker.
As part of its ongoing efforts to grow the game worldwide, the International Softball Federation (ISF) is actively pursuing arena (indoor) softball as well as wheelchair softball to complement the already-existing fast pitch, slow pitch, and modified pitch disciplines that it governs. ISF President Don Porter has expressed hope for an international indoor championship some day.
