RUCs HUDDLE AT ISF COMPLEX

Following the arrivals of all attendees over the last day-and-a-half, International Softball Federation President Don Porter gave a welcome speech this morning at the world headquarters in Plant City, Florida. His audience members were the ISF Regional Umpire Coordinators. Mr. Porter thanked the group for all their efforts, not only within their own country, but throughout their region and, of course, at the international level.

The ISF president also used the opportunity to brief the group on the progress of the BackSoftball campaign.

The meeting was then opened by ISF Director of Umpires Bob Stanton. The group is to review a wide range of topics over the course of today and tomorrow, with departures scheduled for Sunday.

Agenda items include:

  • ISF XII Men's World Championship – expectations and evaluations of umpires
  • Easton Foundation Youth Softball World Cup – expectation and evaluation of umpires
  • Planning for clinic and certification seminars for the next three years
  • Review of possible rule change proposals for this year’s ISF Congress
  • Review of mechanic change proposals
  • Development of new educational materials and delivery programs, including Umpire Manual, interactive website, and Case Book
  • Development of recertification criteria
  • Review of clinic and certification seminar materials and presentation style as well as scoring
  • Umpire activity reports
  • Planning for ISF Congress

The ISF continues to work toward expanding the role and inclusion of women in umpiring, which will also be on the agenda.

As the Chair of the ISF Umpires Commission, Softball Canada President Kevin Quinn is on-hand for the meetings. The Regional Umpire Coordinators that are present include:
AFRICA – Vincent Maoeng (South Africa)
AMERICAS – Julio Hellburg (Netherlands Antilles) and Santos Vázquez (Puerto Rico)
ASIA – Tommy Wang (Chinese Taipei)
EUROPE – Marlies Struyve (Netherlands)
OCEANIA – Margo Koskelainen (Australia) and Wayne Saunders (New Zealand)
