SHOWING SOFTBALL’S TRUE GLOBAL REACH
2008-02-01

A new month begins today as the New Year marches on. Godfrey Been, President of the Turks and Caicos National Softball Association (TCNSA) is looking forward to an even better 2008 after a 2007 season that was a great success.

While some may be quick to point out more established countries in the Americas like Canada, USA, and Venezuela – all of whom will be participating in this year’s Olympics – the TCNSA is another national governing body just like them, 34 in all under the ISF umbrella in that region. And the sport is playing on in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

President Been reports that their season last year consisted of male and female teams, with games being played at least three days a week. In his words, “the 2007 season…proved to be a very good one.”

In addition, the TCNSA held their annual tournament for the sixth year. Teams from neighboring countries are invited, such as the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. The 2007 edition of the event was won by the Dominican Republic in both the male and female divisions. This year, and as the tournament continues to develop each year, the TCNSA plans to increase invitations to more surrounding countries.

The TCNSA is also working on development of facilities as well as children in softball, along with what Mr. Been refers to as “the highest standard of coaching.”

These continued efforts in Turks & Caicos, the rest of the Americas, and around the world are what make softball a truly global sport.
