TWO MORE QUALIFY FOR 2010 WWC
2009-09-28

The field for the International Softball Federation’s XII Women’s World Championship came two steps closer to becoming complete over the weekend. The two African spots were clinched at the Zone 6 Championship, held this year in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Botswana and South Africa each booked themselves a berth in next year’s marquee ISF event by finishing as the top two teams at the annual African event. The first place finish was noteworthy for Botswana as South Africa had entered the 2009 tournament as the defending champions.

Not only were the South African women looking to defend their Zone 6 (fast pitch softball) crown, but their male counterparts were as well. And there too Botswana broke through to come away on top.

Zimbabwe finished third in both men’s and women’s play. Lesotho’s women’s team came in fourth place.

The games were played at the Eaglesvale softball fields and were attended by ISF VP/Africa Marumo Morule, who is also the president of the African Softball Confederation.

Asia and Oceania are the two remaining regions to determine their 2010 Women’s World Championship participants to complete the field of 16 countries.
