Can anyone comment with scientific data on the relevence of allowing 11-12 year old girls to swim for recreation during a softball tounament? Our girls are being told that they will not be allowed to play if they swim in a pool during a tournament. I have not been able to find any data that would substantiate this. Thanks

JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN BRITISH SOFTBALL
IMPORT COACHES
The British Softball Federation hopes to enhance its programmes with support from talented coaches who are available between April and August 2008.
Coaches need to have a good knowledge of softball (both slowpitch and fastpitch). They should have had some experience coaching in one or both formats and be able to deliver coaching sessions to children and adults. Much of the work will be done in schools and youth academies as well as with local clubs.
We currently have openings for Import Coaches in the North West and South East of England, in London and in the West Midlands.
Coaches will be assisted with living arrangements and costs, your flight to and from the UK (if necessary), and your basic work and living expenses.
The work itself is hard, often involving afternoon, evening, and weekend sessions, but rewarding. Previous Import Coaches have been able to develop their coaching abilities, add to their CV, enjoy an excellent coaching experience, and have a fun time delivering sessions in the sport they love to play.
Appointment dates are up for negotiation between April and August. You will need to be prepared to use public transport and have your own travel and medical insurance. If you are placed in the West Midlands or the North West you will require a driver’s licence.
You may need to adjust to the fact that our leagues are quite small, especially with regard to fastpitch and our fields are multipurpose facilities that many sports share. At both a junior and senior level, everyone is still learning many aspects of the game. That’s why we need your help! But we can promise you that it will all be a lot of fun!
To apply for an Import Coach position, please send your CV showing relevant experience to Hayley Scott (hayley.scott@bsukmail.com) by February 12, 2008.

Your senior softball team(s) is invited to participate in the 7th Senior World Cup. This tournament is sanctioned by the International Softball Federation, the worldwide governing body for the sport of softball. The event will be held June 20-22, 2008 at Salem, Virginia. We are excited to be able to bring this tournament to the beautiful Roanoke Valley and the excellent softball complexes they now have in place. Their organizing committee is already at work and they are enthusiastically looking forward to making this one of the best senior tournaments ever. They have many years of experience hosting National softball tournaments and their dedicated staff will provide our tournament managers the necessary support to make sure that our senior players enjoy a quality event. You will find an Entry Form and Roster Form for this special senior tournament on the ISSA website soon. Your Entry Form should be returned as soon as your team decides to participate in the tournament (your roster can be turned in later but no later than June 1). Send us your mailing address and we will forward a list of the tournament hotels and area attractions. The ISF Senior World Cup will be played by the 2008 ASA Playing Rules. New for 2008 will be the use of the strike mat and the six foot pitching box, both were approved at the recent ASA National Council meeting. Competition will be held in Major+, Major, AAA and AA divisions to provide all teams the opportunity to have a competitive experience. All teams will have the opportunity to vie for a World Championship in their National Rating category against similar rated teams. We anticipate an increase in the number of teams this year so I would urge you to enter early, as soon as your team makes the decision to participate. Salem is located within driving distance for a major portion of the population of the United States. The Roanoke Airport is only a few minutes from the softball complexes. We know that you have many options to participate in senior softball. Here are a few reasons we know that you will be glad you chose to come to the Roanoke Valley in 2008: • Excellent state-of-the-art softball facilities • Highly trained and motivated staff • An excited and committed host • Favorable lodging rates • Managers Meeting with dinner provided • Fields dragged and lined between every game • Official scorekeepers with electronic scoreboards • International umpire crew • Local and National media coverage • Brackets updated on the Internet during the tournament • Excellent awards • Concessions and souvenirs at each venue • A beautiful setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains The entry fee for this World Tournament will be Four Hundred and Thirty-five Dollars ($435.00) if entry is postmarked prior to April 15. After that the entry fee will be $495 and teams will be accepted on a space available basis only. Should you have any questions about this tournament please do not hesitate to contact me. The tournament will be managed by the ISF Senior Softball trained and experienced staff and all of us look forward to providing your team a rewarding experience this year. The 2008 ISSA World Championships will continue to be held at Manassas, VA in August. Information for both tournaments will be posted on the ISSA Website at www.seniorsoftball.org. Players should log on to the ISSA Mailing List to keep up with the latest news about these tournaments. Best wishes for a very successful 2008 Senior Softball Season and I look forward to seeing you in the Roanoke Valley in June Best regards, RB Thomas, Jr. ISF Director of Senior Softball 9401 East Street Manassas, Virginia 20110 703-368-1188 703-361-0344 (Fax)

I disagreed, because she never completed her turn at bat. Where can we find a rule covering completed turn at bat.

does anybody else agree that pitchers face masks are the dumbest thing that were invented. First off, they dont do anything for you, if you are afraid that you are going to get hit then dont play. you know the risks stepping on the feild. Second, were softball players, we have good reaction time move out of the way. Third, first and third get a lot more line drives than the pitcher. Forth, if you are a good pitcher, they arent going to hit to many line drives right back at you. Fifth, Ive heard arguments such as a girl got hit in the chest, fell down and starting seizing, do you suggest we wear chest protecters to when we pitch. Sixth, they only cover your face, what if you get hit in the side or back of your head, bigger brain damage possibility there. Seventh, players dont wear socks anymore, theres a good chance you could be cleated and damage your leg too. Eighth, you can be injured from anything, so be brave and just play. Ninth, college softball doesnt even require batter face masks, and you dont see to many facial injuries and Tenth, THEY INVENTED THE GLOVE TO PROTECT YOU. please reply to this Id like to hear others opinions on this "great" invention. if they ever require face masks for pitchers, I will quit.

For that matter, could you please e-mail me a list of all the Modified Leagues under your jurisdiction throughout the country. I am the President of the Mens Modified Softball Club, on softballfans.com. I want to spread the word about Modified Softball to the playing population. If players knew of a league in their area, they might be more apt to play Modified. I am simply trying provide as much information as I can. Thank you again.

I am an avid softballer. I play Modified Fastpitch here in NY, Long Island to be exact. What does the ISF offer in the way of Modified leagues for Men in lower NY? With the ASA becoming more stringent, for lack of a better term, on their standards for bat usage, what does the ISF offer to us here in NY? Many of my teammates and others within the league are disgusted with the ASA, simply because of the monetary issue. We spend a lot on bats, they are not cheap at all. Now they are banning more and more bats, for "safety" reasons. An alternative to the ASA would be nice, but many of us do not know if there are any at this time. Please advise. Matthew Karlin

Hello! I am presently conducting a little study under the form of a 1-question survey to find out what are the biggest challenges that coaches face when it comes to running their program. I am planning to publish an article with the results. As I said - it is a 1-question survey. It will take you less than 1 minute. You can find it there: http://www.softballperformance.com/survey.php To thank you for taking time to answer it, I am also offering you a complimentary copy of my new book "125 Top Performance Secrets of the Worlds Best Softball Players". You can certainly send copies of it to all your athletes and fellow coaches. Not only will it help them but they will certainly greatly appreciate the gesture. So.. please take less than 1-minute of your time to answer the following question: As a coach, what is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your program? You can answer it here: http://www.softballperformance.com/survey.php Thank you very much, Marc Dagenais Ph.D. student in sport psychology Softball Coach and Consultant www.softballperformance.com
