Don Porter
President
Named Executive Director of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) in 1963, Mr. Porter became Secretary General of the International Softball Federation in 1965. He became the ISF’s second President in 1987. He has served the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) as chairman and member of a number of committees including the Board of Directors of the USOC from 1984 until 1998. From 1990-1998, he served as chairman of the Oklahoma Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. Mr. Porter served four consecutive terms (and is still currently) on the Executive Council of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). He was re-elected to his Secretary-General position of GAISF at their 2002 Congress. In addition, he presently serves on the USOC’s International Relations Committee. He also served as Secretary-General of World Games I and was one of the founders of the World Games. A former referee in the National Football League, Mr. Porter is credited with softball becoming an Olympic sport. The stadium at the national softball hall of fame at the ASA headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (USA) is named after him. He was elected to the ISF Hall of Fame in 1983 and to the ASA Hall of Fame in 1988. |
