PAN AM SOFTBALL – NOW & THEN
2007-07-13

The Opening Ceremonies take place today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the XV Pan American Games. The multi-sport event runs through July 29, with women’s fast pitch softball being played from the 23rd to the 28th.

Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) President Mario Vazquez Rana confirmed two days ago that softball will again be played at the next Pan Am Games, which will be held in Guadalajara. The Games are held every four years and softball has been a part of the programme since the 1979 event in Puerto Rico.

ISF President Don Porter commented, “Softball is very popular around the world, and the countries in that region are certainly no different. We have good competition both at the tournament that qualifies teams to go to the Pan American Games as well as at the actual event itself. I’m confident that PASO will see a great event from our sport both this month as well as in 2011.”

The Pan American Games are one of at least 15 multi-sport events that softball is on the programme of. This month’s competition, which the ISF President will attend, will include the following teams: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, USA, and Venezuela.
